Thank you for purchasing Pilot Training Solutions’ Instrument Written Preparation Course. These instructions should assist you in installing your Written Preparation Course on your computer. These instructions are valid for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 Operating Systems.
For the security of this course, a Security Code has been emailed to the address provided during purchase. In order for the course to run on your computer, the code must be entered after installation and at the onset of course. Copying and pasting that code form the email is the easiest way to accurately transcribe this information. If you download the program without the security code or do not have it available during installation, you will not be able to run the program. Note: You can only install this course on one computer.
SCREEN RESOLUTION ADJUSTMENT
As this program contains figures and diagrams necessary for the education provided in this course, it is recommended that you set your computer’s screen resolution to 1024 x 768. This can be accomplished by right-clicking on your computer’s desktop.
! Note: this is an optional step to insure that the program opens to the full size of your computer screen, making figures, animations and text as large as possible. This is not required to use the course and can be done at a later time, if you wish.
- If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, one of the options available will be Screen resolution. Click on this, then verify your resolution is set to 1024×768. If it is not, then click on the button next to your screen resolution. Set it to 1024×768; this should be the fourth tick mark from the bottom. Click Apply, then OK to exit back to your desktop.
- If you are using Windows XP, select Properties, then click on the tab labeled Settings. To the left of the window should be an adjustment for Screen resolution. Drag the indicator to the left until it is set to 1024×768; it should be the second tick mark from the left. Click Apply then OKto exit back to your desktop.
PROGRAM DOWNLOAD
Click on the “Click Here to Download Full Version” link at the top of the page. The program will ask you whether you wish to open or save the file; specify a location to save the file and continue. Download times will vary on internet connection and computers. Upon completion, the program will be saved as a zip file named “Setup IRA” in the chosen folder – it is almost 700MB.
Click on the file to unzip the program. Many computers have an archiving utility such as WinRAR or Win Zip to enable this process. There are several such utilities that can be downloaded for free to your computer. Highlight both files and click “Extract”. When un-zipping the file, you will once again be asked to pick a destintation. When un-zipping is complete, close the open windown and look for a file folder named “Setup IRA”.
There will be only one file inside the folder; double click to begin program installation.
PROGRAM INSTALLATION
Click on the “Download” Button for the appropriate course and the program will begin transferring to your computer. Depending on your operating system, you may get a window prompt labeled Auto Play. If prompted, Click on Run IRAV2_1.exe to continue to installation.
The following window will ask you, Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this CPU? Click Yes to continue.
On the Welcome Screen, click Next to start the installation process. Click Exit if you wish to cancel the installation at this time.
If you have not already adjusted your monitor resolution, you may get a prompt advising you to do this. As previously discussed, adjusting your monitors resolution to 1024×768 will insure that the program opens to the full size of your computer screen, making figures, animations and text as large as possible. This is not required to use the course and can be done at a later time, if you wish. Click Next to continue.
Read the terms and conditions listed in the License Agreement for the program. If you agree to these terms, click the circle to the left of I agree with the above terms and conditions, then click Next.
! Note: you must click this to be able to continue the installation of the software.
The program will then ask you to Choose a Directory: The program is automatically set to install the software into the Program Files folder on your hard or C: drive. If you wish to save the program to a different location, click on the box located to the right of the directory box for a list of other available destinations on your computer. Click Next to continue the installation. You will then get the following prompt: The destination directory doesn’t exist. Do you want it to be created? Click Yes to continue installation.
Confirmation: This is the final step before program installation begins. It will indicate where you have selected the program to be installed on your computer. If everything looks good, click Start to begin installation. If you wish to change the destination of the program, click Back to re-select the destination.
Installation time will vary, based on your computer. Once complete, you will receive a prompt indicated that the program has been successfully installed.
A shortcut should have been placed in the location designated during installation – by default, to your Desktop. Double click on the program icon to begin the course at your convenience.
The program will prompt you to establish an internet connection and enter the Unique Order I.D. number and Activate. This code was emailed to the address provided during purchase. Simply copy and paste this code from the email into the space provided. Without this step, you will not be able to use the program.
* Note: If you wish to have your quizzes transmitted to Pilot Training Solutions so we can sign you off to take your FAA Knowledge Test, you will need to have your preferred email account set up as your default email program. This setting can be found on your start menu – click on Default Programs and select your email program from the provided list.
